Draft. This is a short, honest description of how TrailSafe works today. It will be replaced by the full policy after a legal review before the first community uses the app.
TrailSafe uses your location only while you are out (after you tap Start). We keep your latest position only, not a list of where you have been. When you stop, it is removed. We keep no location history.
Visible only to approved community members, and only while you’re out.
Hidden locations are never displayed with a name or any other identifying detail. On the Dashboard map they appear only as anonymous points.
When you send an alert, members of your community within 5 km are told, with your name and where you are. It also appears in your community’s alert log for 7 days, including who sent it, where it started, when, and how it ended. Each entry is deleted 7 days after it ends.
We use Supabase (database and sign-in, hosted in Ireland), Resend (to send you your email verification code) and Google Firebase (to send notifications to Android phones). Our maps are served from our own files, so no map company receives your location. We do not sell your information and we do not show advertising.
You can ask us to delete your account and your information by writing to hello@trailsafety.app. Deleting from inside the app is planned.
TrailSafe is run by its owner from South Africa and follows the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). The legal details of the responsible party will be confirmed here before launch.
